For more than a decade notable electro-acoustic group NIYAZ has stood at the forefront of cutting-edge global music by pushing the boundaries of traditional and modern music in order to unite people from different cultural and spiritual backgrounds. Their genre defying sound seamlessly blends medieval Persian poetry, ancient folk songs from countries in the Persian Gulf and Indian sub-continent, with rich acoustic instrumentation and modern electronics. At the center of Niyaz’s music is the unmistakable voice of Iranian-born, Indian-raised, Azam Ali, whose otherworldly singing has been featured in many Hollywood film and television soundtracks. Today, with three successful albums which have topped the world music sales and radio charts and placed them in front of audiences around the world, Niyaz continues to defy the conventions of “world music” and makes a bold statement to a global audience.
