Rocío Marquez has made her name as a leading figure in the world’s contemporary flamenco scene intertwining tradition with avant-garde.
Born in Huelva in 1985, Rocio Marquez started to attend to flamenco lessons at the Peña Flamenca in Huelva at the age of 9, winning various contests singing Fandangos from her native Huelva. In 2005 she was granted a scholarship at the Cristina Heeren prestigious foundation.
In 2008 Rocío Márquez won the most important flamenco festival contest in the world, El Cante de las Minas. She won the prize in the absolute category (Lámpara Minera). Her tour schedule grows exponentially from this point on, and she performs at present in the most important cities and festivals around the world.
Her recordings, « Aquí y ahora », « El séptimo sello », « Claridad » and « El Nino « (Universal Music Spain), an ambitious homage to the flamenco legend Pepe Marchena, have received tremendous responses from the press and the public. She released in 2017 her new album “Firmamento”.
Miguel Ángel Cortés
Born in Granada in 1972,Miguel Ángel Cortés descends from a long line of flamenco guitar players. In 1986, at the age of 14, he started working as an accompanist for great dancers such as Mariquilla, Manolete, Antonio Canales, Javier Barón and Juan Andrés Maya, travelling with them throughout Europe, the Middle East, the U.S. and Japan.
In 1994 he won the first Premio del Certamen de Guitarra Paco de Lucia.
Although he has on many occasions proven to be an excellent solo guitar player, Miguel Ángel Cortés collected the majority of his fame in being one of the greatest contemporary guitar players for accompaniment of singers. Artists such as Estrella Morente, Carmen Linares, Arcángel, Miguel Poveda, Esperanza Fernandez, Rocío Márquez have all been known to call on his exceptional talent.
