SUMMARY:Electric Percussions Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Life sometimes brings its own surprises. At a Raja Yoga workshop in 2018\, I gave the album “Traces of Life” to a friend who is the director of the live music programme in the Danish school network. He liked our work and put us in touch with his Indian friend Rishab Prasanna who also liked our music. Rishab Prasanna is a very well known Bansuri flautist in India. Living in France\, he is used to collaborating with other musical forms. \nWe corresponded and an idea for a new piece was born. Until now\, EPO was essentially oriented towards rhythms from Africa and its diaspora (Brazilian\, Cuban\, Venezuelan\, West Indian music…) through the use of percussion. Nevertheless\, the desire to meet other sound worlds was already there. It seemed natural to us to encounter a thousand-year-old music such as traditional Indian music with its complex rhythmic characteristics (odd rhythms\, long cycles…) as other artists we listen to had done before us (Charlie Mariano\, Shakti\, and more recently Zakir Hussain and Dave Holland…). \nSo the question was to design a playground between these two worlds. A world where these two approaches to improvisation could meet\, complement each other\, confront each other and collide to build a sort of “third way”. But we still had to invent a framework\, a setting for this creation. \nIt was then that the theme of the journey imposed itself\, whether it be geographical or interior\, personal or musical.  The idea of a journey\, of passage\, but also of meeting oneself and the other. The Self within the other and the other within the Self. \nThis quartet will play new compositions based on this project and its instrumentation. \nTo be a little more explicit\, “The Great Journey” is intended as a musical creation\, an allegory of the soul’s journey from its human state to its “supracosmic” state. It is\, of course\, an imaginary work\, as we do not claim to know all the states that we will describe below\, but which refer to the writings of Raja Yoga. All the pieces in the programme are all new compositions\, and  here is what they refer to \nThe call: the inner voice manifests itself and tries to be heard\, by Man \nThe awakening (7 beats): The little voice inside has been heard\, now we have to find a path to start the journey \nThe 13 points (13 beat): Man\, to complete his evolution (revolution?)\, must pass from point 1 to point 13. These points are like energy nodes\, Chakras. \nThe 5 circles of Maya (Illusion) (5 beat): correspond to the first five points\, i.e. the heart region (Pin Pradesh) \nThe Liberation is in the Hindu (but also Buddhist) tradition the end of the cycle of reincarnations \nThe 11 circles of the ego (11 beat)\, correspond to the points located from 6 to 12\, they belong to the region of the Bramanda Mandal (cosmic)\, for the first and to the Supra Bramanda Mandal (supracosmic region for the last) \nThe 7 rings of splendour (7 beat) correspond to point 13 and are also called Central Region \nAll this will serve as basic material to explore the complex rhythms of India\, some specific “modes” and above all will be the starting point for our collective exchanges and improvisations.

SUMMARY:Dhruv Visvanath
DESCRIPTION:Dhruv Visvanath is a Singer-Songwriter\, producer and accomplished acoustic guitarist from New Delhi\, India. Having spent a large part of his childhood in various parts of the world like London\, Zambia\, Hong Kong\, and Mumbai to name a few\, Dhruv uses the collective experiences from his past to craft his songs and stories. In 2018\, Dhruv was India’s only entrant to South By South West\, Austin\, Texas USA\, and the Canadian Music Week in Toronto. His uniques style of playing the guitar led him to be mentioned as one of Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s 30 Great Guitarists Under 30\, alongside the likes of Ed Sheeran\, Newton Faulkner\, Laura Marling and many others. Under VLT records\, Dhruv released his Debut album “Orion” in 2015. His sophomore release\, “The Lost Cause\,” released in 2018\, was crowdfunded and released independently\, debuting at #2 on iTunes Apple Music’s top 50 albums at the time of release.  His unique style of playing the guitar allowed him to develop a relationship and an endorsement with the Dehradun Guitar Company in 2018\, resulting in his own custom guitar he so lovingly calls\, Willow.  \nThe inspiration behind Dhruv’s music stems from a deep connection with his past experiences\, often retelling his childhood experiences in colorful and inventive ways through his songs. At the age of 16\, Dhruv lost his father to a heart attack\, an event that flipped the fortunes of his entire family. Having since moved back to India\, the pain of his father’s loss led him begin his journey as a songwriter. Through the love and support of his family\, Dhruv has seen himself grow leaps and bounds not just as a performer\, but as a musician and songwriter as well. His songs speak of the innocence of being younger\, and the excess baggage we all carry as adults.  \nDhruv continues to evolve as songwriter and producer\, which is especially showcased in the work he’s done for numerous independent and mainstream films in the Indian cinematic landscape. In 2019 alone\, Dhruv has written and produced for two independent films\, as well as worked with the likes of Vishal Bharadwaj for his film “Sonchiriya” and A.R. Rahman for the exclusive Netflix release “Blinded By the Light”. Over the last few years\, Dhruv’s music and productions shall find a place in a few up and coming Video Game productions\, most notably Pariah Interactive’s “1000 Deaths” and Single Effect Studio’s “Xochi’s Apothecary”. \nIn 2020\, Dhruv released 7 brand new singles bringing much light and energy to a pandemic filled year. Later in the year\, a Bollywood debut for Dhruv’s music made it’s way to Bejoy Nambiar’s “Taish”\, with his song “The Mountain King.” These songs came together to form Dhruv’s 3rd and latest Album “The Book of I”\, an entirely self produced record\, which managed to cross 1\,000\,000 streams within a month of its release. The music from this album allowed for him to be an early inductee to Spotify’s Radar program\, opening avenues for his music to be heard across the world. \nAnd to top it off\, thanks to the folks at Apple\, one can now use Dhruv’s music to assemble “Memories” through the iOS photo app\, on every portable iOS device\, in the world. \n“His latest album\, The Lost Cause is an Independent effort\, released on the 19th of April 2018\, is rich in the colours of the world\, often shifting between traditional folk music\, rhythmic pop and tribal-based work of his home country of India. It’s earthy\, accessible and dazzling” – Jason Scott.  \n“Everything Dhruv writes hits you straight in the feels\, and ‘Wild’ is no exception. Absolutely brilliant.” – RandySlaugh (Composer\, Arranger and Producer)  \n“Dhruv Visvanath’s ‘The Lost Cause’ is a true coming-of-age spiritual and emotional journey\, a powerfully immersive acoustic folk-pop experience you won’t forget” – Atwood Magazine \n“Dhruv plays guitar in a way I had only seen very few people play before. Plus\, he is a songwriter and a singer\, which always works for me. He has a unique voice\, and a style that is all his. Also\, you need to hear all 14 songs on Orion to really understand his thought process and story-telling! I love that in an artist.” – Vishal Dadlani \n“Dhruv Visvanath’s story is an inspiring one… and you can feel and hear it in his music. His new song ‘Wild’ is an inspiring ballad that’ll leave you quite… speechless. It’s absolutely incredible. A world fueled by gentle\, melodic guitars and moved by a vocal style that’ll send chills up and down your spine” – Gemsandsecrets \nThe Lost Cause is not just Visvanath at his diverse best \, but it’s also growth at its finest. Whether you’re in a small room or at an open-air festival\, this one’s going to hit just as hard – RollingStone

SUMMARY:Albaluna
DESCRIPTION:More than a band\, Albaluna are a concept. Through a multidisciplinary fusion between music\, poetry\, and dance\, inspired by the ancient cultures of the Silk Road\, emerges the originality of this project. Albaluna employ their passion for the History of Civilizations as a starting point for a sustained struggle against prejudice and intolerance between cultures. The artistic dialogue expands around age-old conceptions and an unmasked modern approach. “A sextet which is musically at home anyplace in the world. They play yesterday’s music and experiment through it the music of tomorrow”. (Vogtland-Anzeiger | Germany | 2018) Having celebrated their tenth anniversary in 2020 and with five records in their discography\, the band embraces an already vast national and international curriculum\, having performed in many European countries\, as well as in Morocco\, India and China. In 2021 Albaluna will present their latest record Heptad\, in a profound catharsis in which the band exposes an introspective journey inspired by the ancient cultures of the Silk Roads. An intense and boundless piece. The band creates soundscapes with instruments originally from the geographic areas corresponding to the vast arms of the ancient Silk Road; dance paints\, through the colours of the garments; and poetry gives voice to the feelings and reflections of this myriad of cultures. The ambiance of this intense onstage act is fuelled by the band’s own creativity and unending energy\, along with the profound intimacy and introspection offered by some more peaceful moments. The performances are suitable for theatres\, concert halls\, and folk\, rock\, or generalist music festivals
