Lucibela

Lucibela

Morna and Coladeira - Cape Verde

Born in Cape Verde in 1986, Lucibela is considered the heir to the unforgettable Cesaria Evora. She began her singing career at a very early age, interpreting the repertoires of the great local voices: Cesaria Evora, Titina, Bana, Lura... Quickly appreciated throughout the archipelago, she moved to Lisbon in 2016, where her international career really began.

Her participation in the Sfinks Festival in 2017, followed by the recording of her first CD Laço Umbilical, opened the doors to international recognition. After Amjder, a tribute to Cape Verdean women, his third CD, Moda Antigan, released in November 2024, continues to celebrate the musical heritage of his native island's glorious predecessors.

She is at present one of the current voices of the two main styles of Cape Verdean song: the morna and the coladera, that the great Césaria Evora brought to the world's attention in the 90s. Born in the middle of the 19th century in Boa Vista (Cape Verde), the ‘morna’ sung for the ‘partida’ (departure) is a rather nostalgic music punctuated by swaying rhythms.
