A native of Diyarbakir, in theTurkish Kurdistan, Ruzan Filiztek has travelled extensively from his native Anatolia to Istanbul, then on to Iraq and Syria, whose repertoires he has explored, before arriving in Europe and Paris, via Andalusia.A singer and player of the Saz, the long-necked lute from Asia Minor, his knowledge of Kurdish musics and songs has earned him the status of ‘stranbej’, the melody teller, the person who perpetuates oral memory by playing and singing ancestral Kurdish tunes...His passion for ethnomusicology and travels has also led him to explore the Turkish, Greek, Armenian, Georgian and Aramaic repertoires. Ruzan Filiztek was a member of the Orpheus XXI ensemble led by the master of the viola di gamba and conductor Jordi Savall.
