Nandini Shankar is one of the most promising & upcoming faces in the world of Indian violin. Known for her ability to make the violin sing, she inherits the legacy of the Gayaki Ang (singing style) on the violin) from her gurus, her illustrious grandmother PadmabhushanDr. N. Rajam and her mother, the highly accomplished visionary Dr. Sangeeta Shankar. Nandini began her training in violin at the age of 3, and gave her first ever public performance as a young 8-year old. Her first solo performance was at the age of 13, and ever since then, she has been an avid performer – frequenting Indian Classical Music festivals all over the world. Her progress has been astonishing and she has reached a high level of proficiency on the violin.
She has toured over 15 countries for concerts, and has also performed at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York. She is a part of 2 bands – ‘Sakhi’, an initiative by the singing queen of Indian Classical Music, Kaushiki Chakraborty, and ‘inStrings’, an Indian fusion band formed by Dr. Sangeeta Shankar. Currently she also teaches Indian Music & Composition at Whistling Woods International, a premier film institute in Mumbai. Academically, she is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds anM.A. in Music from SNDT University.
Nandini has received appreciation for her fusion experiments. She has 4 singles and an album to her credit. She also records for ads & films. She endorses Thomastik-Infeld Vienna violin strings & Ted Brewer violins. She also received ‘Jashn-e-Youngistan’ at the hands of the Vice President of India in the year 2018.
